It is October 29, 2007 and I am writing from JFK Airport waiting for a connecting flight to Buffalo New York, returning from sunny Sarasota on a personal trip. Sarasota is one of the top retirement communities in the USA. With a population of under 100,000 people it is pretty much a laid back town and remains relatively "American". While driving through one of the main roads in Sarasota, I spot a Jamaican flag flying on what I discovered later as a Jamaican restaurant
"Cool Beanz" as it is called is located at 5119 Tamiami Trail. It has hard to miss this spot as it is located close to the Sarasota International Airport. I stepped inside and asked the owner, if I could take a few shots to post on the BigCulture.com website. He agreed and I promptly went about taking shots of both inside an outside of the building. But how could I left without savouring a Jamaican dish. I bought a stew chicken with rice and peas but there was a wide choice of food on the menu.
The taste reminded me of home cook meal. The rice and peas had a flavour that I found much like home cooking. The chicken was tender and and appeared well seasoned. Since I was on the road, a drank a can of peanut flavoured Irish Moss. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for Jamaican food.
