Jamaicans Still Divided

I came across this youtube video. The comments are really interesting and shows how much Jamaica is still divided. This election will not change anything most Jamaican will remain in "Third World" conditions if the mentality remains

Comment 1

"I am happy not to be there as well. The ability of a leader speaks greatly about the people who are being led. You may be a prime example. Try to forget about the curry goat your great grandfather got and think with sense. please make sure you get an education and try not to buy your degree like portia!! one love"

Comment 2

"just like you and the rest of the JLP, I cant wait too because we are going to give the JLP a fine beating"

Comment 3

"You seem to be a uneducated person, your use of language protrays it. also people need to know how bruce and seaga won their seats"

Comment 4

"can you tell of some jobs that she has created since she came into leadership? or is the cost of living improved since she came in to office? how can you vote for someone who is not making your life better. what will it take for you blind jamaicans to see that this present gov. don't care about you. Pray and ask God to open your eyes to see"

Please note the above comments do not reflect my own views, I think personally we should call this a stalemate.

Jamaican Election, its High Stakes

As one famous person once said “Politics is for Scare Benefits and Spoils”. This is even more apparent in the upcoming election. The Jamaica Labour Party has been in the wilderness for a very long time, more than one-third of the Jamaican population have known only the Peoples National Party in power. Many in the JLP are quietly whispering “It is my time fi run things”. However, the PNP have enjoyed the fruits and they will do their best to maintain their seats around the table.

Like two very experience gladiators (pardon Mrs Portia), Portia Simpson and Bruce Golding are sharpening their swords as they ready for battle on the election campaign trail. No doubt they will bring with them a “bag of promises” (a.k.a. Tricks).

Bruce “Almighty” has a lot to prove, this is the prodigal son, in whom much is expected. With not much differences separating both parties, the “better must come” oh I meant “Hope for Jamaica” will be the tag line. As for Mama P, or Portia Simpson, being elected the first Jamaican female Prime Minister continues to be the trump card a.k.a “For the People”.

Along the way there will be big announcements, a mix of the latest reggae dancehall tunes will be played. Ladies will be dancing “Hot Wuk” labourite or socialist style at Passa Passa events across the country. No matter your political stripe, we all know that the stakes are high. Winning is everything, losing is not an option. As the red stripe pours, Nannies unroll and the food and music mix, the stakes have never been higher than this upcoming election.

Peoples National Party

The Peoples National Party currently forms the government and is led by Portia Simpson-Miller who became the first female Jamaican Prime Minister. The party's political platform has been traditional liberal. However in the past 10 years, the party has moved to the centre.
